ABOUT US

In order to support and protect art and culture, different art organisations in Brussels felt the need for dialogue and collaboration. The Brussels Kunstenoverleg (BKO) and Réseau des Arts à Bruxelles (RAB), both meaning the "Brussels' Arts Network", were founded. The two networks now function as one platform, RABKO.

We serve as a knowledge centre and important political contact point concerning all sorts of cultural matters. In addition, we focus on reflection and networking by organising activities and events with themes that are relevant to the cultural sector. Because durability and solidarity are an integral part of our work, we gave them their own permanent platforms: SamenDurable and United Solidarity.

Administration

RABKO is an organisation consisting of members: this means that all members sit in the general assembly.

A dynamic consultation structure relies on reliable policy making procedures at various levels of the organisation. The organisational structure of RABKO prioritises uniting the shared interests of cultural actors from both language communities. This emphasis is reflected in both its internal organisation and its organisational chart. At the same time, RABKO remains attentive to the specific interests of its Dutch-speaking and French-speaking members.

Juridically and administratively, BKO and RAB stay separate non-profit organisations, but in practice, they work together intensively on each of the following levels, by convening together:

- The General Assembly brings together all members once a year.
- The Governing Body has a maximum of 13 directors per non-profit organisation and gathers four times each year.
- The delegation consists of four members from each governing body at most and gathers monthly.

The same way, a unified team achieves the missions of both non-profit organisations.

Finances

The network is financed by contributions from members and subsidies.

Membership contributions
The members of RABKO are professional art and cultural organisations located in Brussels. They pay a contribution based on their structural subsidies and/or returning project funds.

Subsidies
BKO receives a subsidy from the Vlaamse Gemeenschapscommissie (VGC) – Flemish Community Commission.

RAB is financially supported by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles – Wallonia-Brussels Federation – and the Commission Communautaire française (COCOF) – French Community Commission.

The Brussels-Capital Region also participates in financing both networks, through the jurisdiction of Image Brussels.

Furthermore, the networks receive subsidies for specific projects.

In 2024, SamenDurable was supported by the National Lottery and the City of Brussels, and the training cycle Work in Progress by the Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles.
